There is something magical about that time of year when the leaves change colors and start to fall. On the flip side, there is also something really annoying about it: getting rid of those leaves once they blanket your lawn.
Let’s face it: jumping into leaf piles is serious fun, but the work involved isn’t. So, what is the easiest way to clean up leaves?
It’s a Multistep Process
Or at least it is if you go DIY rather than calling our lawn service in Cumming. Still, it doesn’t need to be too involved. Here is what we suggest.
Start by Gathering Your Tools
You might think that if you have a standard rake, you are good to go. And in truth, you can get the entire job done with just that, but you might break your back in the process. This is especially true if you are looking to clean up leaves in a large yard. Here are the tools we suggest you gather:
- A leaf blower
- A wide rake
- A mulcher
Once you have these, you are ready to get to work.
Use the Leaf Blower for the Majority of Your Work
Select a corner of your lawn to start it. Then, fire up the leaf blower and start moving in zig-zagging lines towards the opposite corner, steadily blowing the leaves in that direction. If you want to keep the leaves as contained as possible, you can lay down a tarp at the “finish line” to control them.
Switch to the Wide Rak
The leaf blower should get the majority of leaves to where you want them to be, but some will escape. For these, use your wide rake. Using a similar motion as you did with the blower, steadily move all the errant leaves toward your chosen corner.
Fire Up the Mulcher
If you used a tarp, it is a good idea to tie it up at three ends to hold the leaves in, leaving one open so you can grab leaves and feed them into your mulcher. Keep steadily feeding in the leaves until they are fully mulched, being careful with your hands when close to the machine. Once everything is mulched, you can add the leaves to your composting pile, dispose of them, or use the clippings as part of your lawn fertilization.
